One Skein Basic Filet Shawl

One Skein Basic Filet Shawl

Finished size: Adult/One Size

Materials: (US) size I hook, 1 skein worsted weight yarn*
*Red Heart Symphony in Persimmon was used for sample. If using RHSS or the equivalent, you will need a second skein if using an ombre. You may also need to increase or decrease the number of rows when using a yarn other than the Symphony that I used.

ch 5, join with sl st in first ch to form beg loop.

Row 1: ch 4 (counts as beg ch 3 plus ch 1 now and throughout) dc in beg loop, (ch 1, dc) twice, turn.

Row 2: ch 4, dc in same st, (ch 1, skip next ch, dc in next dc) across to last dc, ch 1, (dc, ch 1, dc) in top of beg ch 3, turn.

Rows 3-45: Repeat row 2. Fasten off, weave in ends.

**You can add a border of your choice, or leave as is.

  1. Does this need to be blocked afterward? Mine is not turning out as spaced as your photo...

  2. I didn't block mine.

Did you dc in the dc from the row below? Or the ch 1 space? Do you have a link to a photo? Maybe I can help you figure it out.

  4. Hi April; I have a question that may seem odd. I would like to make this w/out the "point" part of the shawl. The resultmim looking got wouldn't be only rectangular, necessarily. I am just trying to make the back w/ out the full point.
My question is- how do I read the pattern and tell which row to begin with?
    Thanks so much!

  15. Hi April, I've just found your site....and this filet is not as "fish netty" as some I've seen. How difficult would it be to do this stitch pattern as a scarf rather than a shawl. Thinking it would make a lovely year-round sort of scarf if done in a nice quality pima cotton or the like. (the one I have in mind is, I think, lace weight). Since I'm not as experienced as you obviously are, thought I'd ask you first. Hope you get this as I know this is an older post. Love your work! Thank you for sharing! (I also, by the way, love that Surf and Turf Stitch pattern...haven't seen that one before and I think it's lovely!
