Missouri or Bust!

Well, it seems that Maryland is no longer the “perfect fit” for our family. My oldest DD and her hubby have decided to trek halfway (literally) across the country—with family in tow—to Mountain Grove, Missouri! Why Mountain Grove? It’s SIL’s hometown. He and DD have been planning to move out there since they got married last year, but it wasn’t supposed to be a reality for a few more years. Some things have recently happened however, that hinted to us that there is no time like the present to take action! And of course I can't let them take my little Ben away from me, so I've decided that DS and I are tagging along!

We will be leaving Maryland at the beginning of July, and plan to be out there by the Fourth so we can party “Missouri Style” in celebration of the country’s B-day. LOL In the mean time, I've been frantically packing up all of my yarn & crafting goodies. So far I have four large boxes of yarn, and still have a lot more to pack. Jeez, I didn’t know I had collected so many yarnie things! The sad thing is, I know the crafting supplies will take up more room in the Uhaul than clothes or furniture. LOL

I typically hate moving, but I'm really looking forward to this one. New scenery, new town, new adventures... I know it will be the best thing for our family, especially Ben. He will get to meet is "other" grandmother and his aunts, uncles, and cousins all for the first time. :) So, with nothing here in MD holding us back, WESTWARD HO!

Cup O Joe TP Cover/Cozy

Cup 'O Coffee TP Roll Cover

Finished size: Cover will fit a "double" size roll of toilet tissue.

Materials: (US) size J hook; small amount bulky weight yarn, color: Barley*; worsted weight yarn, color: white; tapestry needle.

*Example was made using Lion Brand’s "Homespun"


Cup:

ch 48, join with sl st in first ch to form loop.

Round 1) ch 3 (counts as first dc now and throughout), dc in next ch and in each ch around. ch 3, do not turn. (48 dc)

Round 2) dc in next st and in each st around. ch 3, do not turn.

Round 3) Holding your work with the right side facing out and the beginning ch at the bottom, fold row one to the inside of the circle so that you have two layers. *Working through both loops of the next st from row 2, and through the coordinating st from the beg ch, work 1 dc, repeat from * around. This forms the rounded lip at the top of the mug. (48 dc)

Rounds 4-9) Repeat Round 2.

Round 10) dc in each of next 3 sts, dc 2 tog, *dc in each of next 4 sts, dc 2 tog, repeat from * 6 more times. Fasten off. Weave in ends. (40 dc)


Handle:

ch 17

Row 1) dc in 3rd ch from hook, dc in each ch across, ch 3, turn. (15 dc)

Rows 2-8) dc in next st and in each st across. (15 dc)

Fasten off leaving a 15 inch tail for attaching handle.


Coffee**:

Round 1) 6 sc in second ch from hook. (6 sc)

Round 2) 2 sc in each st around. (12 sc)

Round 3) *sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, repeat from * 5 times more. (18 sc)

Assembly:

Coffee:
With the tapestry needle and coordinating yarn, attach the "coffee" to the inside of the mug near the base of row 1.

Handle:
Fold the handle into thirds. Using the long tail and the tapestry needle, attach one end of the handle between rounds 3 and 4, sew along the side of the handle to secure the layers, then sew the bottom of the handle between rounds 9 and 10, secure yarn and weave in ends.

Ch 4. Sl st in 4th ch from hook to form a loop.

Row 1: 3 sc in loop, ch 1, turn. (Turning ch does NOT count as a sc now and throughout.)
Row 2: 2 sc in fl of first st, sc in bl of next st, 2 sc in fl of last st, ch 1, turn.
Row 3: 2 sc in fl of first st, sc in bl of next st, *sc in fl of next st, sc in bl of next st, rep from * to last st (there will be one st remaining to be worked), 2 sc in fl of last st, ch 1, turn.
Rows 4-15: Repeat row 3. (There will be 31 sc in row 15.)

Pot Handle Cover

Finished size: Approximately 5 x 2 inches

Materials:
(US) size G hook, small amount Worsted Weight Cotton in desired color (Example was made using Peaches ‘n Cream’s Spring Meadows)

**If you need a cover that is a bit smaller or larger you can adjust the hook size accordingly by going up or down one size.

Chain 20

NOTE: turning ch does not count as a stitch.

Row 1: sc in second ch from hook, ch 1, turn. (19 sc)

Row 2: sc in front loop only of 1st sc, (sc in back loop only of next sc, sc in front loop only of next sc) 9 times, ch 1, turn.

Rows 3-13: Repeat row 2, do not turn at the end of row 13.

Joining: sl st in end of rows 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, and 7. Fold the piece in half lengthwise, sl st through the ends of rows 6 and 8 both at the same time, (sl st through the ends of the next 2 rows both at the same time) 5 times, (working through the opposite side of the beginning ch, sl st through the next ch and the corresponding st from row 13 both at the same time) 19 times, ch 1.

Finishing: sc in end of each row around open edge of cover, join with sl st in top of beg sc.

Fasten off. Weave in ends.

CAUTION: Do not leave on pot handle when not in use or while unattended on stove top or near open flame.
