Mama Chicken Egg Cover

MATERIALS
(US) size H hook
Less than 1 oz worsted weight yarn: white
scrap amount worsted weight yarn: red, orange
2 (two) 7 or 8 mm wiggle eyes
tapestry needle

FINISHED SIZE
Fits regular size plastic egg.

BODY
With white ch 18, taking care not to twist chain join with sl st in last ch from hook to form loop.

Round 1: ch 3, dc in each of next 17 ch, join with sl st in top of beg ch 3. (18 dc)

Round 2: ch 3, dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, (dc in each of next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st) 5 times, join with sl st in top of beg ch 3. (24 dc)

Round 3: ch 3, dc in each of next 23 sts, join with sl st in top of beg ch 3.

Round 4: ch 1, sc in same st, sc in each of next 3 sts, hdc in each of next 2 sts, dc in each of next 12 sts, hdc in each of next 2 sts, sc in each of next 4 sts, join with sl st in beg sc. Do not fasten off.

TAIL
ch 8, sl st in last ch from hook, (ch 7, sl st in same st as last sl st) twice. Do not fasten off.

BACK and HEAD
Fold piece flat with tail at the beginning of the current row, working through both layers sc in each of next 7 sts, hdc in next st, (dc, tr) in next st, 2 tr in each of next 2 sts, (tr, dc, sc) in next st, fasten off.

COMB
With red sl st in second tr on head, (ch 3, sl st in next st) 4 times, ch 3, sl st in same st as last sl st, fasten off.

BEAK
With orange ch 3, sl st in second ch from hook, sc in next ch, fasten off.

FINISHING
Using tapestry needle, weave in all ends.
Sew beak to front of head (see picture above for placement).
Glue one eye to each side of head. (see picture above for placement)
